What do New Cairo, Neom, and Telosa have in common? Well, these so-called “cities of the future” are the brainchildren of billionaires with more money than sense. They’re designed to be the newest and shiniest without any consideration at all into their practicality or their purported benefits to mankind. So without further ado, let’s discuss the issues with these over-extravagant projects and how we can ACTUALLY build better cities for our collective future!

Location, Location, Location!

The desert isn’t a nice place to live. Temperatures vary wildly throughout the day and the rainfall is so low that no one can reasonably think of creating a sustainable city for millions of residents. Even if we do consider cases like Neom with its desalination plants or other novel ways of sourcing this vital liquid, they’re all either ridiculously expensive or just won’t be sustainable.
