For any Power BI-related project, LOOKUPVALUE, SELECTEDVALUE, VALUES and RELATED functions play an important role. Using these two DAX functions, we may be able to satisfy some client requirements related to data visualization.

In this blog, you will explore the difference between LOOKUPVALUE and RELATED functions as well as SELECTEDVALUE vs. VALUES.

Get Data

This time we will use available sample data which is already available in Power BI Desktop. Let me show you how you can do that.

  • Let’s start with the Get Data option under the Home tab. As this is an excel file, select the Excel workbook option from the drop-down list
  • Select the file named Data_Set_DAX_chap18.xlsx
  • After selecting the file, data will be displayed in the below format
