Techno-Scientific Materialism And Our Crisis of Consciousness

Today, society and its outlook are dominated by techno-scientific materialism from which the evolution of technology is considered the main driver of the future. However, since the early 1960s, this paradigm has been under constant criticism, viewed as the driving force behind the climate crisis, biodiversity loss, the rapacious exploitation of the earth, and growing social problems due to technology.
By the 1970s, the growing global crisis stimulated new levels of awareness leading to projections of the collapse of industrial civilisation within the 21st century.
The current paradigm has pushed civilisation and the earth into existential crisis — it can not be the foundation for the future.
Studies by Ken Wilber and others suggested that advances in civilisation followed the evolution of human consciousness. Subsequent Futures studies explored alternative futures unfolding from the development of human value systems, expanded worldviews, and new levels of human consciousness. However, the current paradigm through its exclusionary and colonising narrative undermines these developments.
