Innovation Engine
Transforming organizations through people with technology
converting ideas into successful products or services that could be tech-enabled is the main purpose of an innovation engine. like a wind turbine convert wind into energy this innovation engine when it is correctly engineered will be the centerpiece of a loop that will produce better and better ideas convertible to products and services for the target audience that this innovation engine is set to serve.
People and organizations can embed and operate an innovation engine but it often or always needs a complete rethinking of your organization process going as far as building an entirely independent organization if the entity that tries to implement it is an organization itself. We human beings can’t physically build our other independent self but with a process and a mindset, we can consistently have another piece of ourselves that has the purpose to produce this innovation engine that will disrupt us for better. I used to heard that doubt is beneficial for the believers when it is about religion but this is about always trying to confront your perceived and believed opinions with contrarians beliefs and perceptions coming from our other self.
Sometimes you should take others as being your other self and take their opinions, ideas, and thoughts as coming from this other self that is here like an independent organization that challenges us to get this innovations engine that will again disrupt us for better.
Innovation is a transformational process that doesn't necessarily mean new but sometimes a reincarnation of past things that get transformed to serve other purposes or have other functions.
When organizations are hiring they are always looking for this one that fit the job to be done or the organizational process and culture while they should sometime just hire the opposite of what they are looking for and this becomes more true if this one is an idea engine. Like I was trying to promote myself to a position that doesn't deserve and merit but this is clearly how companies and startup should handle their recruitment process. Trying to hire, link and support people that normally couldn't fit into the same group outside of the organization because of their perceived or real differences and make them work to be this innovation engine because it is very likely that innovation is more about people than it is about technologies and tools.
Of course, skills and talent have something to do with this innovation engine but that’s always in an environment and team with diverse opinions, ideas, and skills set that we learn more efficiently because we will be improving our ability to use analogies that we already know how important they are when it is about new ways of using things or understanding them.
Then if innovation is more about people than it is about technologies and tools, every company should take of their HR teams because they are an important piece of this innovation engine that they want to be.
I have said a long time ago that the talent discovery process of companies is outdated it was not because I was struggling to get my dream job that was just because I saw and still see that we could do better at discovering talents and helping people gather more skills until they become part of this innovation engine that will disrupt this organization for which they work for.
but what we see is different and it is members of organizations leaving them and building their own organization set to disrupt the organization they were working for like these two engineers at Google that just launched Neeva a new subscription-based search engine. I have said my point about the importance for a tech-enabled business to be subscription-based (and here also )and I am not throwing stones at these two engineers who maybe will cheap us something that will change a part of our life like all these successful tech ventures like Google did.
I will be writing about this new search engine in the coming days and I have already written many ideas about search engines but a search engine is different from an innovation engine.
