New Apple Watch Flops In Early International Reviews

Was that to be expected?

The Apple Watch Series 8 and SE 2, introduced last week, go on sale tomorrow. If you’ve ordered them but are still wondering whether or not to take delivery, the following lines might help you.

After all, Apple has already managed to lend the watches to many foreign YouTubers and media outlets, so we already have our first more comprehensive impressions of them.

So, how is the news abroad?

The evaluation of the watch by foreign testers is inherently very short, as neither the Series 8 nor the SE 2 brought much new. Therefore, the tests revolved around the thermometer, the only major new feature, and the evaluation of the functions we are used to from the past. Unfortunately, even the thermometer cannot be described as the one we probably expected.

While reviewer Victoria Song of The Verge found its accuracy to be pretty decent, as it differed by hundredths of a degree compared to thermometers or other temperature-sensing electronics, on the other hand, it doesn’t work like, say, a heart rate or EKG sensor. The thermometer doesn’t have its measurement app, but your temperature is shown in Health, specifically in the sleep analysis section, since only when you’re asleep does the watch sense it.

Moreover, it doesn’t show you how many degrees you’re currently at but focuses primarily on deviations from the standard, which the watch creates by measuring you for several nights in a row and then averaging that data. So in terms of functionality, this may be a big disappointment for many, even though everything should work for men.

As far as battery life is concerned, Cherlynn Low from Engadget has discussed it, according to which the battery life of the Series 8 and SE 2 has not improved compared to previous years, and the watch still lasts about one day.

While you get a couple of hours better battery life when the low power mode is active, it should be added in the same breath that you lose a lot of useful features of the watch because of them, so it’s a big question whether it’s even worth it. Suppose you are interested in the watch's speed. In that case, it is also unchanged compared to the previous generation, but this is not surprising given the use of the processor from the previous two generations.

Bottom line

The Apple Watch 8 and SE 2 are only a very small step forward, which makes sense perhaps only for owners of significantly older models.
