At the 2022 WWDC Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple first showcased the features and design of the next-generation CarPlay. At the moment, the first CarPlay-powered vehicles are finally confirmed to be available in 2024.

According to journalist Mark Gurman, Aston Martin and Porsche recently showed off the first vehicle dashboards to support Apple’s new CarPlay.

Aston Martin said it plans to launch its first model with the new CarPlay in 2024, including an upgraded DB12 sports car, though no specific release date has been announced.

The next generation of CarPlay will enable deeper integration with the vehicle’s dashboard and climate control system, supporting multiple displays, radio apps, widgets, and more. The interface can be customized for each vehicle type and the automaker’s brand characteristics.

Aston Martin showcased CarPlay’s integration with the instrument cluster and climate control system:

Porsche also didn’t announce the exact release date of the car but showed off a customized extended CarPlay interface:

With the new generation of CarPlay, a connected iPhone will provide app-related data, while the vehicle will provide information such as driving data and tire pressure. Apple mentioned that a connected iPhone does not store or track this vehicle information.

When Apple unveiled the next-generation CarPlay, it said that automakers that pledged to support it include Acura, Audi, Ford, Honda, Infinity, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Polestar, Porsche, Renault, and Volvo, among others. Aston Martin is a new entrant, and Apple is expected to announce an updated list of manufacturers later this year.

A review of the top five features of the next-generation CarPlay that Apple showcased:

  • Instrument cluster integration: Deep integration of vehicle instruments, including speedometer, tachometer, odometer, fuel gauge, engine temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, etc.
  • Climate control: Direct access to the vehicle’s climate control system, such as adjusting the air conditioning or heating temperature, fan speed, heated seats, heated steering wheel, etc.
  • Multi-screen support: Apple says CarPlay will be tailored to each new model to fit its unique screen shape.
  • Widgets are the heart of the new CarPlay, which provides instant information such as trip duration, fuel efficiency, distance traveled, calendar events, weather, phone calls, and HomeKit-enabled garage door status.
  • Radio: The new version of CarPlay will include a brand-new radio app.

Apple stopped selling the new Apple Watch.

Apple Stores in the United States have stopped selling this year’s new Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2. They previously provided a statement to foreign media that it would comply with the ITC’s recent ruling, which found that the Apple Watch’s blood oxygen sensor infringed the patents of medical device company Massimo.

When you go into the Apple Online Store (US) to look at these models, you’ll notice that they’re tagged as “Currently Unavailable.” Furthermore, Apple has removed the reconditioned Apple Watch Series 7 and Series 8 devices from its website.

In response, Apple expects to submit an appeal on December 12 and has stated that it is investigating different legal and technological routes to resume sales of Apple Watch models as soon as feasible.
