The loss of historical consciousness, the failure to recall historical parallels, has enabled Trump and his movement to dominate the political discourse. Are we witnessing the Revenges of History?
Decisions taken in boardrooms, or by governments can ruinously affect generations of ordinary lives even whole communities. The impacts can be experienced in waves over many years, decades. Waves of displacement, loss, insecurity, social and economic disenfranchisement are not experienced in silence, but complaints are often stubbed out by official narratives that confect some larger benefit, or necessity, and finally by indifference.
But, repeated displacement, the depth of losses and insecurity of the oppressed and defeated, foment the hardening of resistance, the rise of anti-systemic views and the rejection of official narratives, and even the rejection of a rational, factual world — ‘The Revenges of History’
