The State of Aeon 10_19_2018
Aeon has taken some steps forward in the past two weeks. Community members are starting to involve themselves again with the project, either in discussion or in helping improve use-cases for Aeon. The main point of Aeon is that it is a community-based project. It was originally developed to allow anyone to contribute, small or big. @AEON_Community was started to help motivate those community members to get involved back with the project. Let’s jump into the details of the past two weeks!
SimpleSwap addition of Aeon
SimpleSwap has added the integration of Aeon to their platform. SimpleSwap is another use-case for Aeon cryptocurrency where users can exchange Aeon coins for many other supported coins, or they can swap any of the supported coins for Aeon. This service is great for those without an exchange trading account to swap currencies to Aeon! Check it out and thanks to the SimpleSwap team for integrating the Aeon project into your platform!
Community Discussions
Some members of the community have stepped in to start healthy discussions of enhancing the Aeon code. Here are some of the discussions:
- Removal of 0 mixing when Bulletproofs implemented
- Removal of Ring sizes 0–4 or using fixed ring sizes
- Reconsidering or changing tail emissions
- Branding Pack update to reflect new slogan for Aeon
Remember that ANYONE can involve themselves in a discussion even if they have never done so for Aeon before. If you have an enhancement or change you think may help AEON, feel free to open a GitHub bug or Reddit post. Also feel free to add your thoughts to any open discussion! Remember, changes won’t be made if nobody speaks up and adds their thoughts to the process.
Aeon Rebase Update for MonerujoAE Android app
If you didn't already know, /u/m2049r adopted Aeon to his android app a while ago. There has not been an update to the MonerujoAE code to reflect the post-rebase Aeon v.0.12.4+ code. Please add your input to the discussion on this. Having an official android app supported by the GooglePlay store is a very important use-case for Aeon. Let us all support this addition by adding input or supporting the AFS proposal. Note that m2049r may be creating a new proposal under his name after the time of this article. Please check AFS for the latest.
Ledger Support
A note was relayed about a prior discussion of adding Ledger support for Aeon. Currently, Aeon has the code for implementation of Ledger support but it is deactivated since the rebase fork on v.0.12.0. A discussion has been made that Ledger support will NOT be activated until the Bulletproofs and RingCT code is updated and activated. Please voice your opinion on adding Ledger support or create a GitHub bug for discussion there. Keep track of their roadmap for implementing new coins to their support list. Feel free to join their Developer Slack :
“Ledger is not contracting coin support through paid integration anymore. Integration of new cryptocurrencies is done through internal evaluation criteria (market cap, community reach, etc). Developers are welcome to build integrations based on our SDK (please refer to our Developer Slack community).”
Twitter Account???
What’s going on with the Aeon Twitter account? It’s another social contact with the community. Who owns this? It seems they have not been active for a while. Does anyone want to claim this? Please feel free to start using this again, as any medium for connection with the community is important!
Other Aeon Updates or Notes
- How-to: Compile Aeon for Android: Has this been checked with latest versions of Aeon and Aeon-GUI? Does someone want to check up on this?
- XMR-Stak , XMrig , and XMrigCC have updated their miners for the latest v8 Monero fork. This updated version is not required for current AEON code but is for Monero mining as of 10_18_2018.
- FreeBSD Package for AEON in funding status on AFS. Will the Dev Fund be used for this since its a supporting package???
- Aeon Web Wallet proposal in funding status. Dev funds and Katiecharm’s funds were offered here but seem like they have not been used to fun this proposal yet. The requested funds are well below the offered funding for a Web Wallet. Is anyone willing to step up and fund this additional use case for the Aeon Community?
