The World’s First Commercially Sold Fully Functional Computer — Z4
Konrad Zuse though from a civil engineering background made a significant impact in computer architecture
It is 1938, an apartment in Berlin was buzzing with mechanical noise. The noise is due to an ingenious invention by a 23-year-old guy. The condo was the birthplace of the first programmable computer. This guy will grow his ambition to make the first fully functional commercial computer. His innovations in the field of computer science will revolutionize computer architecture. The guy was Konrad Zuse. Interestingly he didn’t learn computer science at college.
Early career and Z1:
Konrad Zuse was born in Berlin on June 22, 1910. Zuse did his diploma in civil engineering and got into the Henschel Aviation company. In his work, Zuse had to do a lot of manual calculations, which were absurd and repetitive. As any smart engineer would think he wanted to automate the process by a mechanical calculator. By 1936 Zuse was ready with the logical plan of his prototype V1. Zuse architecture was revolutionary as it involved binary operation…
