This $30k All-American EV Is Ready To Take On Tesla
The Fisker PEAR could be a remarkable machine.
Over the past few months, there has been a growing hype around Tesla’s upcoming, smaller, and more affordable Model 2. With the 2, Tesla will finally enter the “affordable” section of the EV market. Many hope this will be the EV they have been waiting for, offering Tesla’s signature charge times, performance, and range to the masses. However, it already has a strong homegrown competitor, the Fisker PEAR, which is poised to go head-to-head with the EV juggernaut. But can this underdog really take on Tesla?
Before we dive into the PEAR, we should address who and what Fisker is. Henrik Fisker is an automotive designer responsible for some of the most jaw-droppingly beautiful cars of all time, like the BMW Z8, Aston Martin DB9, and Tesla Model S. After seeing the EV revolution on the horizon, Fisker started his own company, Fisker Automotive, which built the Fisker Karma. Unfortunately, this gorgeous hybrid sports car had some serious engineering flaws, and the company had a plethora of financial issues. It turns out that being good at designing the appearance of a car doesn’t translate into getting the engineering right or running a manufacturing plant well.
