Using the Ethical Deep Web as a Predictive Tool

But you still need to watch out for online Troll Gangsters

In my work as a peak performance futurist, a predictive analyst and mentor, I often use the ethical deep web — All the web pages that are unidentifiable by search engines. Many deep web sites may be concealed behind passwords or other security walls, while others simply tell search engines to not “crawl” them. Without visible links, these pages are more hidden for various reasons.

I can get data here that is not available anywhere else, including from whistle blowers, and deep security analysts.

Still, as much here as anywhere else you need to be careful concerning what I call Troll Gangsters (a TG).

A TG is an individual, who make, post or make digressive, insincere, extraneous, inflammatory, or off-topic messages online or in real life. The TG does all this with the intent of manipulating others’ perception, provoking others into displaying emotional responses, or thus acting as a provocateur, disruptive force or bully. The behavior is typically to achieve a specific result, for the TG’s sadistic amusement, and to wreck, havoc. Often the TG behaves this way by disrupting what they perceive to be another’s online activities, or predictive patterns. They may also purposefully cause harm or confusion to other people.

There is an online sight known as Encyclopædia Dramatica (often abbreviated ED and æ) that is a luxury Internet “swamp” resort hotel for Troll Tricksters.

It is a satirical website, regularly lampooning encyclopedia topics and current events. The site focuses especially on those related or relevant to current Internet culture. It often serves as a repository of information and a means of discussion for the Internet subculture known as Anonymous. Here it celebrates a subversive “trolling culture”. It does this by documenting culture, internet memes, and events that may include:

• mass organized pranks,

• trolling events, and raids

• … And large scale failures of Internet security.

They also focus their attention on criticism of Internet communities which are accused of self-censorship in order to garner positive coverage or prestige or from traditional and mainstream media outlets.

Journalist Julian Dibbell described Encyclopædia Dramatica as the site

“where the vast parallel universe of anonymous in-jokes, catchphrases, and obsessions is lovingly annotated, and you will discover an elaborate trolling culture.”

Here you will find flamingly secist, and racist content lurking throughout. All of this content designed to offend.

Encyclopædia Dramatica has been described as:

“Wikipedia’s evil twin. It’s a site where almost every article is biased, offensive, unsourced, and without the faintest trace of political correctness. A search through its archives will reveal animated images of people committing suicide, articles glorifying extreme racism and sexism, and a seemingly endless supply of twisted, shocking views on just about every major human tragedy in history.”

Mainstream media outlets have been increasingly concerned with the willingness of some Internet users to go to extreme lengths to promote organized psychological abuse andharassment.

In many countries there is a movement to make certain forms of digital trolling illegal. Some of the crueler and invasive trolls, such as those who defaced the Facebook tribute pages of murdered children, have been sent to jail, though only for short periods of times. Many business investors have been victims of trolling when the later have planted false information in online discussions causing stocks to jump or crash after the reports were identified as false. The line between hactivism and intellectual vandalism is a thin one. I have spoken to some trolls who were willing to speak with me, and they insisted that they are not evil, but in fact fighting evil by trolling.

Anti-Scientology protests by Anonymous, commonly known as Project Chanology, are sometimes labeled as “trolling” by media, and the participants sometimes explicitly self-identify as trolls as do various Neo-Nazi Trolls who target Jews or Muslims. A favorite place for the DTT is to hang out is in the dark side of the deep web.

Many Digital Troll Tricksters psychologoically live in the a place called the “deep net” Also known as the “invisible web, “deep web”, or “hidden web”. These are the areas of the World Wide Web whose contents are not indexed by most search engines or information networks like Google, Bing, or Yahoo.

Google, Bing, Yahoo, and similar engines and networks are known as the surface web. The easiest way to describe them is like an iceberg whose tip sticks out above the ocean surface while hiding a massive berg below just the surface.

The surface web, the one most of us deal with daily, is just a small tip of the information-data reality floating around cyberspace. There is nothing particularly bad or evil about the deep web. It is just there! The deep web includes many very common uses such as online banking and webmail, but also paid for services with a paywall such as video on demand, and similar platforms.

Computer scientist Mike Bergman is usually credited with coining the term deep web in 2000 as a search indexing term. Like a wealthy city with a really bad, crime-ridden neighborhood, over on the edge of town. Within the deep web lies an “information neighborhood” of Rogue tricksterism, evil intention, and outright criminality. This is what the Dark Web or Darkne is about.

The first conflation of the terms “dark web” and “deep web” and came about in 2009 when the deep web search terminology was discussed alongside activities taking place on the darknet and Freenet. Freenet is a peer-to-peer platform for censorship-resistant communication, and data transfers. It uses a decentralized distributed data store to gather, deliver and keep information. It also maintains a suite of free software for communicating and publishing on the Internet without any fear of censorship.

This is the part of cyberspace that doesn’t show up on the search engines. Keep in mind that despite Google search’s immense index, sources generally assume that Google is only indexing less than 5% of the total Internet, with the rest belonging to the deep web, inaccessible through its search tools.

The Takeway

How can this be? Well, on Freenet or darknet there are connections made between one person’s Internet presence (node) and another person’s presence (node). These connections are usually between people that know and trust one another. Here you must trust others even though the NT understands that no one can be trusted all the time in all situations. The person who goes across the cyber border into the Darknet assumes that their friends won’t attack their anonymity. On the one hand darknet connections offer better security than open net connections, however, this advantage disappears if one is incompetent or arrogant and makes “darknet” connections to people they do not trust.

Here is an interesting story @LewisCoaches

Author: Lewis Harrison is a futurist, and professional forecaster. He is the Executive Director of the International Association of Healing Professionals, a philanthropic and educational organization that distributes free life lesson classes, mental health awareness vlogs, prepper guides, and self-improvement programs around the world.

Lewis is also a best-selling author, and former host of a radio show on an NPR affiliated station.

Here is a humorous promo for that show

Lewis created a game theory based Life Strategies Playbook and Mentoring Method which he offers at no charge. He has used this system to move individuals and organizations to the next level. His work in Applied Gamer-Thinking is revolutionary. (Game Theory, the source of his work has won numerous Nobel Prizes).
