Apple usually holds its developer conference in early June. WWDC is the largest gathering of developers for Apple products, primarily focused on operating systems. But the past year has shown much more than that. So what to expect from WWDC23?

Apple Reality Pro and realityOS

The company’s long-rumoured VR headset, whose unveiling (not so sales) is reportedly imminent, is called Apple Reality Pro. So we may even see it before WWDC, and there’ll be more talk about its system at the event. Apple’s headset will reportedly offer a mixed reality experience, 4K video, a lightweight design with premium materials, and state-of-the-art technology.

New desktops

It’s unlikely, but the Mac Pro is still in play with its introduction at WWDC23. It’s the only Apple computer still populated with Intel processors, not Apple Silicon chips. Its successor has been coming long, as the company last updated the computer in 2019. There would then be little chance for the Mac Studio, which debuted last March. It would also be worth showing the M2 Ultra chip to the world just for desktop computers.

New MacBooks

Last year at WWDC22, Apple also unveiled new hardware after a string of long years, to everyone’s surprise. It was primarily the M2 MacBook Air, one of the company’s best MacBooks in recent memory. But along with it, we also saw the 13" MacBook Pro, which still retained the old design and, compared to the Air, did not draw from the 14 and 16" MacBook Pro introduced in the fall of 2021. This year, we could see the highly anticipated 15" MacBook Air, which could ideally complete the company’s portfolio of portable computers.

Operating systems

It’s 100% certain that Apple will show us what everyone is expecting — iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS 14, watchOS 9. Of course, there will also be new software for Apple TV and HomePods, although we may not hear about them at the opening Keynote because we can’t assume that these systems will bring any groundbreaking news to talk about. A long speculated question is then the homeOS system, which we expected last year and did not see.

When to look forward to it?

WWDC22 was announced on April 5, WWDC21 on March 30, and even a year before that, it happened on March 13. With that in mind, we can expect an official press release with more details any day now. This year’s Worldwide Developer Conference is expected to be physical, so developers should be onsite at California’s Apple Park. Of course, everything will kick off with an opening Keynote that will introduce us to all the news above in the form of presentations from company representatives.
