Why Do So Many People Think Their Phone Is Listening To Them?

People sometimes believe the weirdest things. A while back I had a really strange conversation that went something like this:

“Dude, your phone is listening to you,” said Nic with a straight face.

I wanted to bang my head on the table.

He continued: “Why do you think it always shows you an advertisement about the thing you were talking about, right at the moment you are talking about it?”

I wanted to bang my head on the table even harder.

He then proceeded to speak to the phone, trying to prove his point.

This time, I needed a wall to hit my head against.

Voice assistants have been here for a while

Siri can’t often even answer simple questions. You have to repeat your commands several times, but somehow your phone is able to spy on complex conversations, pick up on specific products, and then serve up an ad instantly?

Seriously?

Voice assistants are nothing new. They have been here for a while. Yet, they are still way off from understanding what you really want.
