Why the iMac With M2 Can’t Come Out This Year

Apple hesitates about where to go with desktop offerings

It was back in April 2021 when Apple unveiled a redesigned 24-inch iMac with Apple Silicon. The logical choice then was the M1 chip. But even after more than a year and a half, it may have yet to be a successor with the M2 chip.

Apple first deployed the M2 chip in the MacBook Air and 13" MacBook Pro, which it introduced at last year’s WWDC in June. We’ve been waiting for the big upgrade round to come in the fall, when the Mac mini and iMac will see more powerful versions of the chip, especially the larger MacBook Pros. It didn’t happen, as Apple somewhat illogically only introduced them this January, except for the new iMac.

When will the new iMac arrive?

Since we already have the M2 chip and an updated computer portfolio, when is it possible that Apple would introduce a new iMac?

The Spring Keynote and WWDC in early June are in play, but in either case, there would be the iMac as a device…
