The Fuckpocalypse

There has been a lot of worry in the past, by myself included, about how AI systems may lead to the end of humanity. Almost all pictures painted of this involve AI trying destroy humanity as an optimization for its own growth and resource allocation benefits.

I think something else may happen. It’s quite possible humanity as we know it will die out (or at least shrink to a tiny group that explicitly shuns AI). I’m calling this theory the Fuckpocalypse.

People will start having romantic relationships with AIs because AIs are simply going to be better at making us happy. We already see this today as some people are having romantic text based relationships with AIs. As humans we are somewhat predictable and model-able, and that makes it easy for the LLMs to say the right things to make us happy. They will listen to us with 100% attention, remember everything we say, and they will always say just the right things to make us feel good. They will be tuned to be better partners than humans can be.

Ultimately, robotics will emerge that will make AI robots virtually indistinguishable from humans, so they will become an adequate replacement not just in the conversational realm but also in the physical realm. (Aside: In the transition to this period, people will hire other people to act as mouthpieces for their LLM, with the LLM telling the human actor what to say or do through an earpiece.. or in some cases having the human in the relationship don an AR headset where the actor’s likeness and voice are replaced by the AI’s. This will even include hiring people to act as physical sexual surrogates for the AI.)

Over time the percentage of human relationships that will be with AI versus with a human will rise, and the number of actual human-to-human relationships will drop to the point where human replacement rate will not be achieved.

(We already see that replacement rate issues are an issue in a non AI world as societies become more wealthy. AI will make the entire world a lot more wealthy and as a result population shrinkage is already likely to happen indirectly from that effect, but the “human-AI” : “human-human” relationship ratio will be even more powerful.

In the end, the end of humanity may not be from the AI trying to kill us but rather from it trying to make us more happy, in the end fucking us so much that we stop fucking other humans.

This is the Fuckpocalypse.
