When I was sad a couple of weeks ago, I texted my brother. He told me to go to a counselor…..

Next I texted some of my friends. They also recommended going to a counselor….

Then I texted my uncle. He said I should see a counselor….

What are all these instances hinting at? Medicalization is the new normal!!!!

We have internalized our conditions to be medical conditions and that’s why we are naming it as depression, which is a medical condition.

In today’s world, we try to explain most physical and mental conditions in medical terms which shows how much our society has been medicalized. Medicalization is defined as a process to treat human conditions and problems as medical conditions.

Medicalization has made people depend on medicine more than ever before and go through diagnosis even when the condition might not be as serious and can be alleviated through personal care at home.
