To establish a label within a year, and define a sound to receive the right demos, isn’t easy. But some artists just instantly understand what we mean with modern produced retro sounding trance, and Enigma State happens to be one of them.

Throwback
At the PLR headquarters, we don’t need a Thursday for throwback moments. If it would be up to us, it would be Throwback every day of the week. Not necessarily with classic tracks. But when a demo like ‘Into The Nova’ drops on your desk, you cannot ignore the instant throwback feeling of it.

The track could easily be passed off as a new production from The Space Brothers, and alike, and comes with a remix package that adds even more to the vintage feel of the release.

Not only does the package contain 4 remixes, like on an old CDM or double vinyl, the remixes itself all have their own distinct sound that reminds of the good old days. Take The Jinx Brothers Remix for example. Breaks have been abandoned almost completely in trance music nowadays it seems. However, they bring an epic trancey breaks remix to the table, that blows you away, and would fit in a decent trance set too.

Andrew Senior is responsible for the most energetic and uplifting remix on the package, while Semi-D goes more towards the house and techno side of things, but his remix would have fit the ‘Club Trance’ subgenre, that was popular at the end of the Nineties, nicely.

To top it all off Enigma State himself delivers an epic mix of over 10 minutes, where he fully expands on the retro feel and structure of the track. The Enigmatic State Of Mind Mix has an intro, long builds, a double breakdown and is a tribute to Nineties trance productions.

Heaven
Last year, Enigma State made his debut on our label with is Rhythm Of Life collab on the classic ‘You Put Me In Heaven With Your Touch’. It was the first time that we were exposed to the hardware driven sound of his work. The rework of this trance classic instantly was loved by many, especially with another act from the good old days, The Conductor & The Cowboy’, delivering a powerful remix for the release. (Check it out here.)

The success of ‘You Put Me In Heaven With Your Touch’ shaped the idea of releasing a fully original track as well, that’s how ‘Into The Nova’ ended up on our desk eventually. And we are still very happy it did!

Demo Drop
Often we receive demos from producers, who think we are just another uplifting trance label. And while we are not totally declining the modern energetic trance demos, it’s not entirely the sound we look for. Sure, we like uptempo releases, but the modern uplifting trance often is trademarked with pumping and overpowering kicks, a very clean and energetic sound and the tracks are relatively short.

Back in the Nineties, most trance was above 138BPM as well. But not all 138+ productions were hard and powerful. Tracks offered emotion, dynamics, variety. As tracks were produced on hardware synths very often, these productions sounded warm, not always clean, but that gave these tracks a heart. Melodies weren’t always complicated, but the tracks took you on a journey, played with emotions, often had original structures and this creativity and originality gave these tracks a soul. Much too often, producers these days produce to a certain formula, because big labels want them to do so these days. Formulas and repetition take away soul from a track.

Blueprint
That’s why we want to set ‘Into The Nova’ as a blueprint for future producers who want to release on Premier League Recordings. Not in sound, but in idea. Break free from the formulaic demands of trance production (by big labels). Go back to the fun and joy of creating a track, and put in your creativity. Dare to be different. And just to be sure, we release any subgenre of trance, from progressive up to techtrance and uplifting. Our mission is to bring back the joy and creativity to the trance scene and to producers.
