The Best Ways To Spend Your Weekend In Bristol
Have you ever visited Bristol? If so, what was your favourite thing about our gorgeous city? We could go on for days about what makes Bristol so special, but we’ve narrowed it down to the very best of the city, things you really shouldn’t miss. You’ll have to be quick to see the best bits of Bristol in a just one weekend but lucky for you PREMIER SUITES serviced apartments in Bristol are so central you won’t have to travel far!
Visit
If you’re travelling by public transport, you’ll probably arrive at the gorgeous Bristol Temple Mead station, a short stroll from PREMIER SUITES. As you leave, don’t forget to turn around and take in the beauty of the building, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, who also designed the Clifton Suspension Bridge and the SS Great Britain.
If you’d like to explore some more beautiful architecture and design, we also have a beautiful cathedral which is worth exploring. Bristol Cathedral is a working church and is free for all to enter and admire or enjoy a service if you’d like. While there follow the signs to the cloisters, which have access to a lovely little garden if you fancy a quiet moment.
While you’re on that side of town, stroll up the Christmas Steps, which strangely have nothing to do with the festive season. This fascinating shopping area dates back to the 1600s and is home to many strange and wonderful shops and retailers including art galleries, potteries, makers of dresses, shoes, musical instruments, furniture and much more.
If you’re a fan of street art, Bristol has one of the most impressive collections of murals you could hope for. In fact, we are reportedly the home of the worlds most notorious and anonymous street artist, Banksy. You can see some of his early and most famous works across the streets and if you’d like to learn more there are plenty of walking tours you can take too.
Enjoy the cultural and social history of the city in one of our more unusual museums, M-Shed. This free to enter museum documents Bristol’s story via film, photographs, personal stories and objects. Some of the biggest exhibits are outside the main building, including a locomotive engine, industrial crane and 19th-century tug boat. It’s a fascinating and unconventional way to learn more about what shaped Bristol.
Eat
If like us, you can’t go far without a coffee and a decent feed, Portwall Tavern will be top of your list. This lovely traditional British pub is the ideal places to enjoy a Full English, a light lunch or a hearty evening meal washed down by a decent pint and some great company. The pub itself has been going since 1847 so it’s a true step back in time.
If like us, the first thing you think of for diner is a hearty bowl of pasta, you’ll appreciate this gem. Piccolinos is an upscale chain restaurant serving some of the most delicious Italian food we’ve ever enjoyed. Their pasta is handmade daily using traditional techniques and their menu is a great mix of good value modern and classic Italian dishes. Best of all, they are one of our closest neighbours, so you don’t have to travel far.
For a break on a hot day (or any time of year!) get yourself some of Bristol’s most excellent handcrafted Gelato from Swoon gelato shop. The artisan gelato is churned on-site and in addition to the regular 10 favourite flavours, there are six seasonal flavours that change monthly.
