Ganduje reduces Emir Sanusi’s influence by creating new emirates

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje assented to a bill approving the creation of four additional emirates in the state, effectively reducing the influence of the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi.

Kano now has five independent emirate councils, including the Kano Emirate Council headed by the former Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Mr Sanusi.

It was earlier reported how the Kano State House of Assembly removed 36 local government areas from the Kano Emirate to create the four new Emirates.

Mr Sanusi reportedly opposed the re-election of Mr Ganduje. The governor scraped through reelection after a disputed supplementary election. He lost heavily in Kano Municipal, the seat of the Emir.

The Kano State High Court granted an order restraining Governor Abdullahi Ganduje from implementing the breakup of Kano Emirate.

A group claiming to be speaking for the people of Wudil also rejected the inclusion of their community in the newly created Gaya Emirate. The group pledged the allegiance of the people to the Kano Emirate under Emir Muhammad Sanusi ll.

Buhari okays appointment of ex-Minister he once accused of corruption

President Muhammadu Buhari approved the appointment of former Minister of Commerce Bello Maitama-Yusuf as member of the Board of Directors of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).

Mr Yusuf, 72, was accused of corruption by the Buhari military administration in the early 1980s. He went into exile to avoid prosecution.

In 1979, he served the administration of Shehu Shagari as minister for internal affairs and later as minister of commerce in 1982.

EFCC arrests Nigerian musician, Naira Marley

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested Nigerian musician, Naira Marley, real name Afeez Fashola and Zlatan, real name Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael.

The fast-rising stars are being detained and questioned at the EFCC office in Lagos.

Naira Marley during a recent Instagram live session, urged Nigerians to pray for internet fraudsters (Yahoo boys) saying they are the reason money circulates to the common man.

He said: “All you guys, all the money in your pockets, all the money you spend, you think it’s the government that is making the money go round?”

Nigerians embrace new ponzi scheme, Loom

In spite of the bitter experience millions of Nigerians had with various Ponzi schemes in the past, Loom, a similar scheme is making wave among many Nigerians on social media.

After a popular Ponzi scheme, Mavrodi Mundial Moneybox (MMM) crashed in Nigeria in December 2016, many who lost their investments in the scheme vowed never to get involved in any form of Ponzi again.

The scheme which was first reported in the UK, then by an Australian media, ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) as a scam after it had gone viral in Australia, commenced in Nigeria recently.

Nigeria’s Celestine Babayaro returns to Chelsea

Former Super Eagles defender, Celestine Babayaro, is set for action again with London club Chelsea as he has been listed in the legend squad to face their Real Madrid counterparts in a Charity match at the Bernabeu on June 23.

Babayaro, who spent the majority of his career playing in the Premier League, mainly for Chelsea from 1997 to 2005 has been invited alongside 23 other Chelsea greats for next month’s charity.

He was a regular figure in the left side of the defence for Chelsea in his glory days and would be reuniting with his former team-mates also invited for Real Madrid.
