The Islamic Development Bank is an institution created to promote social and economic development in Muslim countries and communities worldwide. On November 1, the IsDB had its first meeting of 2018 with the purpose of discussing two topics in the next four days.

The countries’ representatives started with opening speeches to present their goals in the meeting. While Libya, Pakistan and Yemen emphasized the importance of finding a solution to their urgent water resources issue, Lebanon and Syria reinforced their need of funds to reconstruct both countries. Nigeria recognized the country’s economic weakness and the need, in order to promote development in the region, to resist ideals imposed by hegemonic powers into weaker countries. On the other hand, the United Arab Emirates, one of the main shareholders of the bank, acknowledged the central role the country plays in the path to achieving IsDB’s goals.
