At the begining of todays round of debates (03) in the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), the topic of Drugs and Narcotics met an important hindrance, the application of the death penalty. Since most of the governaments from Southeast asian countries do apply the capital punishment, it was expected from representatives at the meeting to do have a long and intricate discussion on this matter, but this wasn’t fulfilled.

Seen as a pressing matter to many human rights parties, the death penalty poses as a retrograde law on the codes and constitutions around the world. However, few representatives at the CICA summit were concerned enough to adress the issue, allowing representations such as the Phillipines to impose it’s ideals and “Witch Hunt” proposals without a question. The lack of interest of the diplomats does bring some unconfortable doubts about the asian development.

During a press conference later on that day, the Philippines diplomat explained that even though capital punshment is in practice at the country, a few other measures are already producing positive effects to the people, but it did not mention which measures those were.
