The third project approved by the IsDB was the project with the tightest vote so far. The simple majority of the vote was 48,5% and the project was approved with 51,98%. This has generated discontent in some countries, since it was a project the committee had not debated clearly.

Syria was one of the countries that most demonstrated the frustration. “It is not that we do not want to improve Libya, it is because we do not debate enough and we do not enter into consensus. I hope that the project goes well and that we do not have the same situation on the nexts projects”, said Syria’s governors.

The project consists in the construction of 05 oil rigs in the Bouri Oil Field in offshore Libya, in which each oil rig would be able to produce around 200.000 barrels per day. These platforms aim to increase Libya oil extraction and exploration so as to boost its energy sector and direct the national economy towards more development. The estimated cost is USD 2,5 billions.

The project’s country manager was Saudi Arabia, who invested a high value of 1,5 billions dollars. Thus, Iran accused the country of having intentions behind it.
