Press release from delegations of Russia and Somalia: Repudiation Note

The official position of the Russian Federations and the Federal Government of Somalia concerning the United Nations Security Council meeting on Nov 2nd 2018, regarding ‘Somalia and the Gulf of Aden: Sources of Instability by Land and Sea’

The official position of both delegations is to be concerned with the lack of trust and dialogue from the Council members, specially the signataries of the resolution currently in vote. It shows that the previous position of countries like the US, which have seen oppositors as enemies is a reality to be reckoned. This type of behaviour has to be adressed by the International Community in order to seek multilateralism and consensus, the only form to achieve a long lasting peace.

Despite of this event both Somali and Russian delegations are still committed to the UN and believe that dialogue and transparency should be the only path to achieve an effective resolution to consolidate peace and mutual respect.
