“7 Rings” is Ariana Grande’s latest single from her upcoming album Thank U, Next.

The song is mainly viewed as a flex on how rich Grande is because it references retail therapy and buying expensive items for her and her friends. It can also be viewed as female empowerment, since the lyrics reference Grande’s and Pete Davidson’s breakup. And the line “Happiness is the same price as red bottoms” proves she doesn’t need a relationship to be happy.

“7 Rings” has debuted at #1, only months after Grande’s single “Thank U, Next” debuted at the top spot as well. This cemented Ariana’s spot in music history, as she is one of only a few women to have multiple songs debut to the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100s.

According to a recent survey, 90% of Eastside students enjoyed Ariana’s newest hit single.

“I love Ariana,” says Eastside senior Amira Tate. “I think it is really cool that she is expanding her music and trying new things. Plus, the video was amazing.”

That video Amira referenced was a large reason why the song did so well in its first week. To build anticipation, Grande started releasing snippets of the “7 Rings” music video shortly after “Thank U, Next” dropped.

Though the hype certainly pushed her to the top spot, not everyone is impressed. It’s different from her usual style. Not only that, Grande was accused of stealing from Soulja Boy’s “Pretty Boy Swag” and appropriating Black and Japanese Culture.

Eastside senior Janessa Gonzales is one of those students who’s not impressed. “It’s stupid,” she says. “It’s not her style.”
