Sixteen-year-old Joshua Long, a current Eastside student, started playing football at the age of seven. Back then, he was playing for the Baldwin Hills Bruins in Los Angeles. Now, Joshua is on the Eastside Varsity Football team.

“I started playing football to keep me away from trouble and gang violence,” says Joshua.

The Eastside Football team had their first game on August 17, 2018. They won by a score of 32–7.

“Hard work outworks talent when talent doesn’t want to work hard,” says Joshua. “My experience with football has been great so far. I love playing.”

Football players have to be consistent and on top of their grades. If they don’t show up on time for practice, they don’t get to play. They also can’t have any grades under a C.
