Advice For Incoming Freshmen

Dear incoming freshmen,

There are a lot of things that you should know before coming to this high school. First and foremost, you should know that you should be respectful towards all your teachers, as well as your classmates. You shouldn’t say a bad word to them, disrespect them, or fight them. You should be a good kid in high school.

You also should always work very hard on all the work that is given to you. Keep your grades up so you don’t fail freshmen year. You wouldn’t want to retake those classes. Do not procrastinate on any of your homework, or else you’ll end up failing that class. When you come to this school, be prepared to get all year work done. Also be ready, because there are times when you get a lot of homework. If you have Mr. Tilton, you should never procrastinate on his work. Never cheat on any of his tests either. Once a classmate did this, and Mr. Tilton failed them on the tests for the rest of the book. You would never want to get on any of the teacher’s bad sides. They won’t trust you once you’re on their bad side.

Another thing you should not do is get to school late. I know this from experience because I’m usually late to my first-period class. There are also times when there are tardy sweeps in the school. If they get you, they can give you a fine depending on how many tardies you’ve had. The class can be far from the front gate and upstairs. You would have to get to school early or on time to make it to class. If you get to school late, then you’ll miss some important stuff that the teacher is saying.

This school might be big, but it is pretty hard to get lost inside the campus — that is, once you know your way around the school. You probably already know this by now, but the 100’s are on the bottom floor and the 200’s are on the top floor. 500’s are the art classes that are located next to the front gate. Also, the P.E area is located through the big gate where the basketball courts are at. The campus is very big, but once you know your way around it’s impossible to get lost.

It’s important for you to keep your new school clean and to not litter. Some people are used to littering. If you’re one of those people, you have to start picking up after yourself. You aren’t a little kid anymore. You’re old enough to pick up your own trash. You should always be respectful towards this campus, and keep it clean. This includes both the hallways and the classrooms. The janitors have to work very hard because some kids get too lazy to pick up after themselves.

High school campuses are known for their sports, even though some of our teams haven’t been doing so well. If I were you, I would consider joining track or cross country. There aren’t too many people who are into those sports. Plus, it helps you stay in shape if you’re in other sports like soccer (which made it to playoffs this year!). If running’s not for you, there are many other sports as well such as football, basketball, swimming, and tennis.

Remember: you are trying to reach your future goals. You always want to be on top of the class, especially if you are hoping to attend college or university. Keeping up with your grades can help you be whatever you want, whether it’s being a doctor, or a physician, or even a morgue assistant. Plus, the only way to play sports for our school is to keep your grades up. In the future, getting good grades could help you make good money and stand on your own two feet.

Life is hard for high school dropouts. Finding a job is even harder. So stay in school, and don’t do anything stupid.

Sincerely,

Joseph
