Armed Teachers? Oklahoma Says OK

Teachers in Oklahoma school districts are now able to carry a gun in the classroom. The district hopes that arming teachers will help protect their schools against potential attacks.
It’s easy to see how this idea can go wrong. Students won’t know which of their teachers are armed, which could lead to fear. In addition, these guns could end up in the hands of students or other untrained teachers.
Eastside senior Emely Mata is not a fan. “Just like students are capable of shooting, a teacher is capable as well.”
She’s not alone. 83% of Eastside students oppose arming teachers during the period of time students are in school.
