It’s officially fall, the perfect time for comfy clothes or to steal your boyfriend’s hoodie. Get your pajamas and comfy socks on, and come by ASB’s free outdoor movie night on Friday, October 25th. They’ll be showing Coraline at the outdoor amphitheater starting at six. Food and drink will be available for purchase, but students are also welcome to bring their own snacks as well, although all outside drinks will need to be sealed.

If you can’t make it to Coraline, here are four other horror movies you should watch in the week leading up to Halloween. They are available at Redbox or on Netflix.

BRIGHTBURN

Have you ever wondered what would happen if Superman became evil? He’d be unstoppable. If that premise interests you, check out Brightburn. This movie is about a woman who found a child in a crashed ship that came from the above. She and her husband decided to raise him. For them, he was the child they ever wanted-sweet bright talented and curious about the world. As he neared puberty, he began to get bullied, and a darkness started to manifest inside him.

Us

This spooky movie is about a woman named Adelaide who puts her family in danger. Haunted by a traumatic experience from her past, Adelaide grows increasingly concerned that something bad is going to happen. Things get worse when she and her family take a visit to the town she grew up in. While there, they face off against another family that looks exactly like them. The impostors try to take their place. Imagine you found your evil twin. How scary would that be?

“The movie is really interesting,” says sophomore Glennis Vides. “It made me think a lot about having a clone that I probably don’t know.”

THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA

For the people who don’t know La Llorona, she is called the weeping woman and comes from a Hispanic urban legend. In the legend, La Llorona killed her children by drowning them in the river, then proceeded to kill herself. She still haunts the earth, however, a curse to those children who hear her cries at night. She marks those children with scratches which they carry with them wherever they go. In the movie, a mother and her two children encounter La Llorona, putting them in grave danger. They seek help from a priest who practices mysticism to keep her evil at bay. How creeped out would you be if you heard a weeping woman screaming for her children?

“La Llorona is a good movie,” says freshman Ruby Maturana. “It really gave me goosebumps because she has always been my biggest fear.”

SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK

Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark is about a group of teens who stumble upon Sarah’s spooky home. In this mansion, young Sarah Bellows turns her tortured life and horrible secrets into a series of scary stories. These terrifying tales soon have a way of becoming all-too-real for this group of unsuspecting teens.
