As phones become more popular, so do the possibilities for distraction. In a recent survey, 74% of teens in the Antelope Valley agreed that technology is a distraction.

“Technology is a distraction,” says Eastside graduate Sylvia Cervantes. “Families do not spend time together because of it. Children do not play. They’d rather be on YouTube or watching TV.”

Eastside junior Marisabell Briseno says, “I believe that technology is a distraction…Social media does not allow people to set their mindset on something that is important such as school.”

“Technology is a distraction because it’s entertaining,” says R. Rex Parris senior Luis Garcia. “People get too caught up using technology. It’s becoming more addicting, and it’s hard for most people to stop which takes time off of doing other things they have to do.”

Jesmir Lopez, a freshman at AVC, disagrees. “Technology is not a distraction,” she says. “Technology is useful in so many ways, and you can still get things done even with technology. Many people use technology and don’t get things done because they decide not to. Technology isn’t the factor for distraction. It’s how a person uses it.”
