Last night, Beyond the Balcony Productions and Vocal Group brought to life a new Christmas story. The Black Box theater was full as the two groups gave their first performance of Kris Kringle’s Christmas Chronicles, a festive holiday show that gives fresh takes on classic holiday stories, including Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol.

“Noelle is the protagonist that has family problems which prevent her from spending a good Christmas,” says freshman actor Manolo Meza. “Past, present, and future help her realize the issue.”

If Noelle’s character reminds you of Ebenezer Scrooge, that’s intentional. Writer Angel Cole based her story off of the classic Christmas story, and the results are powerful. Many in the audience were in tears by the end.

Other acts will be performed as well, including one that may remind viewers of a classic Dr. Seuss story.

“It’s basically like the Grinch,” says freshman actor Emily Leon. “But he’s human, and he wants to sing.”

That piece was also written and directed by students.

EHS Vocal Group, helmed by Ms. Cowan, also gave several moving performances last night. These performances included an array of classic Christmas songs.

According to a survey, 42% of Eastside students are interested in attending the event. One of those is freshman Layla Quemada.

“I want to go because it’s the festive season and because my friends are in it,” she says. “It’ll be fun and something different.”

Manolo agrees. “People should go because it is an inspiring Christmas Carol that can impact students’ families,” he says.

The final two shows are being held in the Black Box today, December 7th, at 2 PM and 6 PM. Tickets can be purchased for $7 at the door.
