It’s the end of the year, and almost everyone is excited to go on summer vacations. But for some students, summer can be difficult. It means spending a couple of months away from their support system, meaning that these months can be especially difficult for students who struggle with emotional health.

While Eastside has a team of counselors, the perception around campus is that these counselors are often more focused on grades and class placement than on emotional health and support. One way to fix that? Hiring more counselors. According to a recent survey, 87% of Eastside students would like to see the school hire more counselors.

“It would be nice to have more counselors to talk to,” says Nakolice, a sophomore here at EHS.“A lot of the time when I needed to see a counselor for my schooling or for some other reasons either they were busy or not in their office at that time.”

James, a senior at EHS, agrees. “It has been hard when I needed to talk to a counselor and they weren’t there,” he says. “Having more counselors for next year would be a great idea for the school.”

What do you think? Would Eastside benefit from having more counselors? Let us know in the comments below.
