Valentines is a well celebrated holiday here at Eastside high school. It is a day to express your love and charm to your beloved one or friends around you, but it is also considered as one of the most depressing holidays as well.

“It’s my dad’s birthday so we don’t really care,” says sophomore Mia Erazo. “But the candy discount though!”

“I don’t care for Valentines single or not,” a senior who wishes to be anonymous thinks. “ I see it as a normal day.”

“It’s just like any other year,” sophomore Elizabeth Mendoza claims then laughs it off.

Maribel Cruz, a sophomore, also adds, “It makes people feel depressed and lonely.”

“It’s trash,” Daniel Ruiz, a freshman, states with a sour face. “It’s nothing important, honestly.”

A majority of students (mostly freshmen) who were interviewed merely insulted the holiday, which is why an online survey was made instead.

The results were: 24% of Eastside students do not like Valentines, while 32% of students don’t care. And surprisingly, 40% do enjoy the “loving” festivities.

Heaven Mejia (a sophomore) believes, “It’s a cute holiday, it’s adorable to see people give gifts to each other.” She then goes on to say, “People think it’s cheesy, but people like cheesy.”

Emely Merino agrees with Heaven, “It’s a cute holiday to see couples be in love — it’s just adorable — it warms my heart.”

Jazzy Ely, another sophomore, comes up with a smart reply that may be the secret to Valentines, “It’s better to share when you have people to share with.”
