Winners Announced For The EHS Film Festival
Eastside High School’s second annual film festival took place on Friday, May 24th in the Eastside theater. It drew over three hundred attendees, all eager to watch films created entirely by Eastside students. The screenplays were written by students in Mr. Tilton’s Creative Writing class and brought to life by students from Mr. Patterson and Mrs. Pruitt’s classes.
Seven films were shown, three of which left the night with awards. Those three award-winning films are spotlighted below.
The Frosty King
This film, based on a script written by junior Michael Lemus Roberts, was the audience’s choice for Best Picture. This is an action film directed by Aiden Sova and filmed by Sheila Murillo. Jammal Schmit and Citlalin Aparicio’s acting performances helped set the film apart. The film also won Best Sound Mixing.
Ghost In The Storage Room
Ghost In The Storage Room is a romantic comedy film written by Ja’Lynn Simon and brought to life by the directorial team of Justyn Fajardo and John Contreras. Ghost In The Storage Room stars Keandra Hornsby, Larenne Bennet, Cole Tanner, and James Scott. This film won awards for Best Cinematography and Best Director.
Ja’Lynn was shocked that her screenplay was chosen to be played in front of an audience. “I was surprised it was chosen,” she says. “I didn’t think it would have been that good and I felt it was pretty cool.
“It made me feel special,” she adds.
Schoolyard Drama
Schoolyard Drama is a mockumentary film that was written by Katherine Tran, who won Best Original Screenplay for her work. The film featured several noteworthy performances, but Neverlyn Pumphrey’s role as an obsessed stalker stole the show and won Best Acting Performance.
Katherine was also surprised to see her screenplay come to life. And then to have won an award? It was quite a shock. “I didn’t really expect to have been chosen for my film to be acted out,” she said. “It was a very good feeling to know that I did.”
