It’s homecoming week, and while ASB has planned a lot of fun activities this week, many students are already focused on the dance this weekend. As the date approaches, Eastside students are being treated to lots of homecoming proposals, complete with cheering crowds as students ask their crush, friend, or significant other to the dance.

To get a sense of the excitement around campus, we asked over 80 students their thoughts about homecoming. 49% of these students said that they were planning on attending and were excited for the dance. The remaining 51% said that they were planning to skip the event altogether.

Not everyone seems to be excited about this weekend’s dance.

“I’ve gone to homecoming twice and I didn’t like it,” says Eastside student Leslie Cabral. “It gets too crowded so you can’t enjoy it because everyone is just bumping into you.”

“If I could change something about it, I would make it a bigger place,” she says. “And I would like to have more food.”

But many of Eastside’s newest students, like freshman Marco Coronal, are excited about the event.

“I want to experience a homecoming for myself and see what the whole thing is about,” he says. “I’ve never gone to homecoming before, but, as a freshman, I think it will be a good experience.”

And it’s not just the underclassmen who are excited. Junior Jovani Diaz, for example, is looking forward to the dance.

“It’s a fun experience, but it also all depends on who you go with,” he says. He also says suggestions for student leadership.

“I would like them to add more food, so everyone can get the chance to eat and not have the same food every year,” he says.
