Empire actor Jussie Smollett was recently indicted on sixteen felony counts by a grand jury in Chicago for allegedly “faking” his own attack. Many people were angry: some at the grand jury, others at Jussie. Fans were concerned about the future of the show, not to mention Jussie’s acting career.

Eventually, prosecutors decided that they did not want to take this case any further and dropped all sixteen charges against Jussie Smollett.

Some people were not happy about Jussie beating his case. “He should be locked up right now,” says one anonymous Eastside student. “He just wanted to make his career bigger and better. I don’t think it’s fair for famous people to be greedy like this when they’re already famous enough.”

Others were happy to hear that Jussie would be free to continue his role in the popular TV show. Even though Jussie Smollet’s fan-base isn’t as big as that of some of his fellow cast members, Empire fans were excited that the show wouldn’t have to recast his character.

“I am so happy they dropped the charges,” says freshman Kayloni Calvin. “I love Empire and, if they would have replaced him with anybody else, I would never watch Empire again.”

“I knew from the beginning that he was innocent,” claims junior Aminah Jemerson. “It makes no sense to just fake an assault if he’s already a successful actor on a very popular and well-known TV show like Empire.”
