The Los Angeles Unified School District union leaders, teachers, and staff have been on strike to better the future of education. This strike, which is happening in Los Angeles, mirrors similar strikes from other states with one big exception: the LAUSD is the second-largest school district in the nation.

In addition to better pay, teachers are demanding lower class sizes. According to these teachers, students in larger classes aren't getting the one-on-one teacher time they deserve. Teachers are also claiming that they don’t have the necessary resources and staff to help their students.

“People are finally taking a stand,” says one Eastside history teacher. “I’m with the teachers 100%.”

While supportive, students aren’t completely convinced. “I do support it because they are trying to make a difference, but it has been going on for too long,” says one EHS student. “The students that are supposed to go to those schools aren’t even learning.

Approximately 32,000 educators are currently on strike, leaving 600,000 students with subs in the classrooms. During the strike, school attendance has declined, resulting in over $100 million dollars of lost revenue for the school district.
