Meet the EHS Girl’s Tennis team. There are six girls on the team, including one who just joined the team. All six girls are seniors, so Coach Williams is looking for new girls to join the team next year.

Coach Williams has been coaching at Eastside for five years but just started coaching the girl’s tennis team again this year. However, he has been playing the sport for way longer than that.

“I played tennis in college and the game was fun,” said Coach Williams. He used to coach the AV High School Baseball team, but moved here. “The opportunity came up for me to coach so I took it.”

He used to coach tennis to his own children, but now coaches for his “family” here at EHS. The girls feel that this team is a family.

Aulani Henry, who just joined the team this year, says, “Being on a team is an entirely new experience. The more you play, the more it feels like a family and people that you can connect with on a personal level.”

The team knows that they can rely on each other. These bonds will last even after high school. “I have already talked to the [AVC coach] so I will most likely be playing doubles with my partner from last year Evelyn Gonzales,” said Breanna Flores, a second-year player.

Unfortunately, many students don’t even know that EHS has a tennis team. According to a poll of fifty students, 23% didn’t even know that our school participated in the sport. Even though the tennis team isn’t well known as the other big sports here at EHS, it still is a important part of the school.

The girls team welcomes newcomers to join the team. The majority of the team is graduating, so they will need new members to join the family. Email Coach Williams at kjwilliams@avhsd.org if you are interested in joining.
