The Eastside cheer team wouldn’t be the same without their coach Rosalinda Paez. She took the 2017–2018 cheer team from their first competition win to a grand championship. Ms. Paez teaches the girls both structure and sisterhood.

“I feel like I can be myself and enjoy something I’ve always wanted to do,” says Eastside senior cheerleader Gabby. “It’s hard work but you have to put your time, heart, and dedication you may be sore at the end of the day but it always pays off.”

Their school spirit shows it all. These girls love representing their school and its events. In addition, the girls plan on going to three competitions this year, with their eyes set on being grand champions once again.

Unlike most sports, the cheer season lasts all year. It’s a very competitive sport, far more than just sparkly bows and cute uniforms. It’s sisterhood, teamwork, dedication, training, consistency, and maybe even some tears. The cheer team practices four times a week, including the occasional weekend. These practices help the girls stay as prepared and successful as possible.

These young ladies love what they do and are proud to represent Eastside High School. They try to live up to Ms. Paez’s words of “One team, one dream.”
