Unless you’ve been living under a rock for several decades, you may have heard of the infamous “Hawaiian Pizza”. It’s known for its most controversial topping: pineapple. The idea of pineapple on pizza has sparked such a huge debate on the internet for the past few years. We decided to see how Eastside students felt about pineapple on their pizza.

According to a recent survey, nearly 20% of Eastside students report that pineapple on pizza doesn’t really matter to them. “All food is good,” says an anonymous participant.

But the other 80% of people begged to differ.

Unlike other toppings, pineapple on pizza was never completely accepted. 47.3% of people surveyed said that they hate pineapple on pizza.

Eastside cheerleader Skyylar Aldrich is one of those people. “It’s gross,” she says. “Pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza.”

“It’s nasty,” agrees Eastside junior Celine Recinos.

“The only toppings on traditional pizza should be pepperoni and mozzarella cheese. I like my pizza simple with no pineapple,” says Principal Dunn.

Mr. Gaub, history teacher here at EHS, opposes the idea of pineapple on pizza as well. “If it’s got pineapple on it, it stops being pizza. If you go to Jersey, you’re not getting pizza with pineapple on it. Trust me. It’s like dipping pizza in ranch — nobody does it.”

But Melanie Lopez, a sophomore, disagrees. “I love it because it’s sweet,” she says.

Like Melanie, a third of the people surveyed enjoy pineapple on their pizza.

“Pineapple goes on pizza,” says sophomore Austin Courville. “It gives a nice little juicy flavor when you bite into it.”

Jonathan Villafane, another sophomore, agrees. “Pizza starts with P and Pineapple starts with P, so they must go together.”
