Avengers: Endgame is the 22nd movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), a collection of films that are all connected to each other based off of Marvel characters and stories. It’s a direct sequel to last year’s Avengers: Infinity War and sets a major precedent on how multi-movie stories should be handled that only a few others have accomplished.

Over ten years in the making, there isn’t a doubt that the viewers have grown attached to the actors and the characters that they portray, especially the ones that have been there from the beginning. We talked to three Eastside students about what this upcoming movie means to them.

Why do you think Endgame is so important?

“This wraps up all the movies from Iron Man to Endgame,” says freshman Raymond Lopez. “It wraps up the Infinity Saga.”

He’s a major fan of the films and believes that the Endgame film will represent a major moment in cinematic history.

What does Endgame mean to you?

“Endgame means a lot to me because I grew up with Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man and Chris Evans as Captain America,” explains fifteen-year-old Michael Southworth. “After 11 years of watching the MCU, it’s crazy that this may be the last time we see them.”

Michael is one of the many people who have seen these heroes as more than comic book characters or actors. These characters have achieved mythical status for many students.

Is it more than a movie?

“Yeah, it’s my childhood,” says Raul Cruz, an Eastside freshman. “It’s all of my teenage years, it’s my twenties, my thirties, my forties, and it’s gonna be my life up until my death.”

For Raul, these films won’t just be an important part of his childhood but also an important part of his future. He plans on re-watching them even when he has children of his own.

Avengers: Endgame releases Friday, April 26th. Tickets are selling out fast, so be sure to visit Cinemark 22 and get your reservations now.
