The New Halloween Movie Was A Disappointment
On October 19th, 2018, the newest installment of the Halloween franchise was released. It was also marketed as the last installment of the films.
As expected, many fans were sharing their excitement and the hype for the movie continued to grow. Jamie Lee Curtis, the original scream queen, was featured in the previews, which only excited the audience more. Fans were expecting suspense, action, and scares. What they received instead was poor dialogue, cheesy horror cliches, and a snoozer storyline.
Rather than thrilling the audience or making them jump in their seats, the film put some moviegoers to sleep. The horribly-written script left fans shaking their heads in embarrassment. And moments of the movie that were supposed to be “plot twists” came across as almost comedic.
Having Mrs. Curtis as an executive producer only added to the disappointment. Though she did great as Laurie Strode, audience members felt that, because she was in the original film, she’d know what direction to steer the movie in. Instead, her brilliant performance was overshadowed by the film’s mediocre direction.
“It just seemed like they wanted to make money,” says Cassidy, who works at a film shop in Pasadena. “If they cared about the way the fans would feel about it, then they’d make it better. It was just wack. They didn’t even try to make it scary.”
Cassidy, like many other fans, left the theater feeling that the movie was just a cash-cow.
Halloween is currently playing at Cinemark 22.
