The Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve is a big attraction every spring. The fields of rolling hills and blooming poppies are located 15 miles west of Lancaster at 15101 Lancaster Road.

The park opens at sunrise and closes at sunset. Parking passes cost $10 per vehicle, but you can come back to the park multiple times in one day if you keep your receipt.

“It's a great place to go take pictures or even just go for a walk,” says Eastside junior Alexandria Lopez.

She’s not alone. Many people go to the reserve specifically to take pictures with the flowers. And it’s not just the poppies. There are usually a variety of other flowers blooming throughout the reserve.

Junior Rebeca Rico also enjoys visiting the preserve. “It’s a good place to go with your family,” she says.

If you're thinking of visiting the reserve, keep in mind that it is a state-protected reserve, which means that you’re not allowed to pick the flowers. The reserve can get windy, so bring a jacket.
