The holidays can be rough. Not all of us are feeling very cheery this time of year. In fact, a recent survey of Eastside students reveals that 58.1% of students have experienced depression.

“I’ve struggled with depression for years,” says one Eastside senior. “It’s been a long journey. I feel a lot better and relieved that I don’t have that burden anymore.”

Mrs. Kirk, a counselor here at EHS, says, “Kids that deal with depression tend to keep their emotions bottled up inside which could lead to kids thinking that they’re not good enough or that they would be better off just never existing. And that is completely untrue.”

Depression can be rough, especially for students who don’t feel like they have anyone to talk to. Let’s reach out and make sure to encourage these students.
