Whatever Happened To The Wall?

Ever since his rallies as a candidate, Donald Trump has promised the public and his supporter that he will build a giant wall separating the United States from Mexico. This proposal would be intended to stop undocumented immigrants from crossing into the United States.

It’s been three years since this proposal was first announced. So why hasn’t the wall been built?

While there is currently fencing and railing along the southern border of California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, the President’s promised wall — at least the thousand-mile-long, two-story-high version—has yet to see any major progress at the time of this article being written.

The President did recently declare a national emergency to free up funds for the project. However, the legality of that move is hotly debated. Trump is currently being sued by sixteen states because of his use of emergency powers to find funding the wall. That lawsuit isn’t surprising when one considers how much time he has left before the next election in 2020.

“I think it would be a huge waste of time and money anyway,” says Eastside freshman Daniel Ortiz. “It wouldn’t be worth it also because anyone can climb over them anyway or fly above them as well.”

“His dreams will likely never come true,” agrees Eastside freshman Jose Rodriguez.

What do you think? Will Trump’s wall ever be built? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
