Who’s The Greatest American President?
With President’s Day coming later this month, February seems like the perfect time to ask the question: who is the best American President of all time?
In a recent survey, Eastside students were asked to choose the best President in American history. The most popular answers included Abraham Lincoln, Ronald Reagan, George Washington, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump.
Just over twenty percent of students gave that honor to Abraham Lincoln, whose birthday the country will celebrate later this month. Eastside sophomore Noah Lovell is one of those students. “He enacted measures to abolish slavery,” says Noah. “That is a very great thing.”
Another popular choice was Ronald Reagan, who was the President of choice for 22% of students. “He increased defense spending,” says Eastside senior Oscar Commas. “He wanted to build up a bigger and better military.”
The most popular choice was Barack Obama. He received 44% of the vote. “He strove to fix the recession in our country, which helped cut the unemployment rate,” says Eastside junior Izabel Torres. “He was also the first African American to serve in office, which is amazing.”
George Washington, whose birthday is responsible for another one of the school-free holidays later this month, received 9% of the votes, more than doubling the votes received for current President Donald Trump.
