Currently, a foundational shift is in motion in the field of data privacy and the use of personal data that impacts all individuals and companies who operate in the digital environment.

This is a fundamental transition that is most clearly manifested in the activities of governments. The regulators on different continents are adopting new rules on data privacy and mandating companies of all shapes and sizes to comply with GDPR, CCPA, etc. This transition, while inevitable, is a major shift and will take time and collaborative effort among individual consumers, companies, developers, regulators, etc.

Recently adopted data privacy regulations confer numerous personal data rights to individual consumers. For instance, the right to access their data collected by service providers, the right to request deletion of that data or to stop selling that data to third parties.

GDPR and CCPA, at least initially, have the largest impact on businesses that have to comply with newly imposed regulations on customer data collection and management. As a result, many businesses that need the customer data to engage with their customers have to find a way to maintain customer experiences. This turns into an increasingly challenging task because customer data is becoming harder and more expensive to obtain due to the depleting supply of data.

Consumer brands and the technology industry need to find entirely new personal data models which should not only maintain but also exceed the current level of customer experience. Such new personal data models should empower individual customers (who are already accustomed to certain behaviors) to reap more personalized value by “activating” their data.

We can’t expect people wanting their customer experiences dropping while this change is happening. Or maintain current level will not be enough.

Prifina’s Role in Building User-Centric Data Privacy Solutions

This is where companies like Prifina come into the picture.

At Prifina, we are focused on creating a new type of architecture and computing platform where:

- Entirely new types of applications can be created
- User-held data is at the core
- Applications can run in an entirely new way
- User experiences can be expanded in ways not possible until now

In the past, all big transitions on the Internet took place because of the symbiotic interaction between two key groups of contributors: the consumers (consumer market) and the developers (who have continuously reimagined what the consumers can and should have).

For over a decade, this symbiosis has been highly constrained in many ways, where the main reason affecting it, has been the importance of user data as the engine and the limitations by those who control access to this data and the customers.

The Prifina platform is here to change this: by providing individuals with the possibility to make choices and work closely with developers who can build new applications for them. An entirely new category of personal applications. Applications where the individual’s data is at the center but never leaves the individuals’ possession.

Prifina is here to facilitate this powerful symbiotic relationship in a way that will rebalance the customers’ role. Prifina’s mission is to enable individuals to make informed and explicit choices about their personal data that can be used by different applications and services on their terms. Our aim is to create an environment that is in line with individuals’ expectations and the fundamental data rights set forth in the most recent data privacy laws around the globe.

We believe that prior, informed and explicit consent — which is currently at the core of data privacy regulations — will be the main catalyst of change. We also see how the developer community is starting to play a role as the equalizer between the platforms and their customers.

Along with a new type of platform, we are also creating various tools to support developers in building powerful applications for a shared customer base. Just like in desktop applications, developers can focus on creating their apps and not maintaining servers.

Use Case Blog Series

As part of this support effort, we are launching a new blog post series on our Medium channel for documented use cases. In these series, we will share our thoughts on how to reimagine existing applications and create entirely new applications that are possible due to this new regulation and the Prifina architecture.

In these series, we will publish new use cases for potential new applications, preliminary business model ideas to support them and the type of data that can make new types of customer experiences possible.

We share these openly in the public domain with developers, startups and existing companies to be further shared and iterated in other channels as well. We do this as a call for action for driven and future-minded developers to develop new personal apps on top of the Prifina platform and to use open-source developer tools as a way to help educate the markets about the opportunities with user-centric data models.

Become a Catalyst for Change

If you have an idea for a new type of application, or for an application that simply needs to be reimagined, get in touch with us and we will be happy to brainstorm with you and publish your idea via our channel.

Naturally, if you are interested in developing that yourself and want to keep it private, just sign up for our developer account and get started.
