Didn’t I told you July’s Birthday are special to me and so I thought of making something special for a birthday gift. It was my friends birthday and I decided to do something special for her. I loved the idea of explosion card boxes and couldn’t wait to try it out. It’s called an explosion card box because it looks like a pretty normal gift box with the lid on. Once you take the lid off the box, the card sort of opens out (like a little explosion taking place).

So I also decided to do a step-by-step tutorial on creating this piece. Here’s a sneak peek on my final product!

Materials Required:

#Paper Stock Assorted

#Craft Scissors

#Craft Glue

#Patterned Papers

#Craft Embellishments

#Crepe Paper

#Ribbons

#Glitter Sheet

A Special Birthday Cake:

I began by creating the centrepiece of the explosion box. I chose a cake for this. If you want to keep it simpler for first time, you can create a gift box where you can place a small gift in the box or you can write small birthday message instead. It’s all up to your creativity here :)

Step 1: Cut three circles, each smaller than the other from pink glitter paper. These circles will be the base, divider and top layer of the cake. I used a craft scissors to create the patterns while cutting out the circles.

Step 2: Cut out 2 strips of foam paper in pink. These strips will be taped at both ends so that it forms a circle for the cake area between the cut-outs above. Note that the two strips should have two different lengths as the top part of the cake will be smaller than the base part.

Step 3: Make your measurements according to the cut-outs you have made. Roll them up together and tape them at the ends.

Step 4: For the top layer of the cake, I decorated it with an origami candle made from two small strips of paper, other part from red foam sheet and stick them together. Also added few pearls strips to finish the edges.

Step 5: Final step for the cake! Put it altogether and yuuuhuuuu!

Explosion Card Box:

Step 1: Cut two strips of paper measuring 8*24 for first layer, fold them in 3 equal parts and stick the middle section of the two strips to give a shape of box.

Step 2: Cut Square peices measuring 6*6 for adding some decoratives to the card and shown in picture below, trim the edges to give a design. Add different colured peices to add more fun to the card.

Step 3: Stick the trims on the four sides of card and add balloons and ribbons to complete the first layer of the card box.

Step 4: Lets start with second layer of the box card, cut another two strip of card stock measuring 6*18, repeat the first step to complete. Add pattern papers square shaped to finish the four sides of the card.

Step 5: Add text message from glitter sheet to complete the second layer of the box card. Stick the base of first layer to second to create and explosion when lifting the box lid.

Lid of the box:

Step 6: To make the lids, cut 16*16 for first layer and 14*14 for second layer of the box, Leaving edges a margin of 4 on all sides mark, fold and stick the corner to make perfect lids. Decorate with ribbons and embellishments ro complete the lid.

Step 7: Place the second lid on the box card to close, also placing the cake as a centre peice when opening the second lid.

Step 8: Final step to decorate the first layer of box, I have made some crepe paper roses, paper dollies to add an extra beauty to the gift box.

This marks the end of my tutorial. Hope it’s detailed enough! Any feedback or comments are welcomed as this is my very first time in making a tutorial for a DIY craft project.
