Heatwaves, hires, and hooray for Primalbase New York!

An American, a Greek and a Dutchie walk into an office… this isn’t a set up for a joke, these are the new team members of Primalbase that we welcomed into the fold this month! If you’re around the Amsterdam office come say hello to our new colleagues, introduced fully below!

Along with new workers, we also saw a heatwave strike all of our locations — we hope you all stayed safe and in the shade!

Biggest news of all is our New York office opening! Read on for all the latest news from our new home in the Big Apple!

TEAM UPDATES

Martje Albada Jelgersma — AMS Operations Manager and PA

Martje was born and raised in Breda, the southern part of The Netherlands. This is where they celebrate “Carnaval” every year — a crazy five days where people dress up as someone else and go out for drinks and fun!

With a long history in hospitality & managing, Martje is a multitasking talent with strong organisational skills, a hands-on problem solver (she is not stressed easily), and always has a positive attitude.

In her free time, Martje likes to go out to culinary events, dine with friends in the kind of restaurants that turn food into pieces of art, read novels, binge-watch Netflix series (depending on the weather) and play with her three furry cat friends.

Joseph Mahowald — International Sales Coordinator

Joseph was born and raised in Minnesota, USA, where he spent the majority of his time in the marketing/sales industries until 2017. It was at this point in his career that Joseph became obsessed with blockchain technology, and he has since worked for 10+ cryptocurrency startups in a freelance/remote capacity in digital marketing and content creation.

Joseph enjoys travelling and learning new languages and exploring different cultures, as well as strategy games like chess and poker, and electronic/rock music. He’s excited to call Amsterdam his new home, and we’re happy to have him!

Yannis Kakkos — Junior Financial Controller

Yannis is a 28-year-old economics enthusiast hailing from a seaside town in southern Greece. Having recently acquired his master’s degree in financial economics at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam, and having gained working experience in the financial sector, Yannis is ready to make a positive impact for our Amsterdam-based team.

His passionate and inquiring character makes him eager to explore the new economic environment arising from the development of blockchain technology. He has a strong desire to meet new people and positively interact within an international working environment. You can find him dealing with complex numbers or playing around with his excel spreadsheets. He also enjoys travelling, strumming on his guitar and drawing stencils.

LOCATION UPDATES

Primalbase AMS

With scorching temperatures sweeping through most of mainland Europe, the Amsterdam office was a breezy haven from the crazy weather.

It was Warren Seow, our current sales coordinator over from Singapore’s birthday too! Any excuse for cake at lunch is welcomed here.

With new colleagues joining us in finance, sales and operations, Primalbase is running smoothly, and moving onwards and upwards! We also hosted a bagel lunch for our community to network and mix amongst the smorgasbord of sesame seeds and cream cheese! Keep a lookout on our social media for more upcoming local community events like this!

Primalbase BER

As the weather gets hotter, so the Berlin office gets busier! We’ve had a month full of events, office tours and new visitors. Although it is nice weather outside and the summer break is in full swing, we still have all of our regular visitors coming to the office daily to work on their projects. Luckily, the AC and iced coffee keeps everyone cool enough to get their work done.

Furthermore, we are happy to add two new people to our local team in Berlin; Anezka and Indra will work with us from July onwards to support us with any ongoing operational tasks, and to work the evening shifts from the 12th of August onwards. This will allow us to extend our opening times to 9:00–20:00 Mon-Fri. Our recent office satisfaction survey received some incredibly useful feedback, which has helped us to continue shaping our services to best suit our customers’ needs. We’d like to thank everyone who participated!

Finally, we hosted some great events in July:

On Friday July 5th, competition was fierce but fun in our first ever board game & pizza night. From Scrabble to Monopoly, and Chess to Jenga, our community members played (mostly) fair and had a lot of fun getting to know each other.

On Wednesday July 24th, we hosted an event for the DIN SPEC 4997 committee and our local community to discuss their ideas on dealing with GDPR in new decentralised technologies through compliance by design. There was a fruitful discussion with some critical questions, and the empanadas by La Depensa in Berlin were exquisite once again.

On Friday July 26th, we invited our local community for a movie night, screening two Black Mirror episodes followed by a discussion on the themes that were covered in each. There were a lot of deep philosophical questions, ideas and popcorn thrown into the discussion. It was a great way to end the week and we will definitely do it again!

After the success of the first PrimalBrekkie, we plan on hosting another one next month. On Wednesday August 21st, we will also host the Rust on Blockchain meetup, as part of Blockchain Week. Register now to secure your spot!

Primalbase LDN

July has welcomed some new faces on the 32nd floor since we successfully launched our Member Substitution Program for London. It is lovely to see our regular token holders visiting us and watching our community grow.

Our event, “C++” used our impressive event space and hosted an evening class for their students, and we also had a cross uni meet up hosted by Research Institute. We are working on some more meetups and larger-scale events for Autumn, so make sure you stay up to date via the website.

Primalbase NYC

July was a landmark month for Primalbase, with the opening of Primalbase New York! As of July 10th, our New York office is officially open for our community of token holders.

Thank you to all who came to our launch party to celebrate our newest location opening its doors. Ralph and some of our team from Amsterdam were able to join Hannah for the event, which went on into the evening as our team, token holders, and community members got to know one another.

There were some great meetings of minds that evening, and we can’t wait to see what comes from the fantastic start of our New York ecosystem. Check out more photos of the opening here

Leasing options are now available for our private offices, and a private tour can be arranged through our website to view our brand new location at 40 Fulton. We have flexible hot desks available, and our Member Substitution Program allows our token holders to assign their PBT to part-time members in our New York location. We’ve already had a handful of users stop by the space to try out the brand new space and try out what we have on offer. Reviews so far have been great! We look forward to offering neighbourhood deals and recommendations soon, and to meeting more of our community. Keep a lookout for upcoming events and meetups, coming soon!

Primalbase SGP

With the New York opening out completed and out of the way; all eyes have turned to Singapore. We have learned that the market is in a more favourable place for us at the moment and we are eager to ride on the momentum and move forward. We are still focused on having a location in place before the end of the year, watch this space.

Web Products Update

This month was about making sure the Membership Substitution Program works smoothly, and the minimum pricing requirement ensures that all Primalbase members are treated fairly, with token holders receiving maximum benefits from participation in the MSP. This was accomplished by introducing weekly checks of orders that may have fallen below the minimum 8 EUR requirement, so every Monday at 00:00 UTC all orders that are not at least 8 EUR equivalent in ETH are being temporarily disabled, unless token holders update such orders.

Our technical team also worked on some minor updates to ensure that the user experience is optimal.
