A spring in our step, with big changes ahead.

We’ve had a spring in our step this May, with events, new members and big changes afoot.

There have been events galore across all our locations — from ZKP meetups in London to a true hacker’s paradise in Amsterdam. We welcomed leading developers, researchers, engineers and tech enthusiasts from around the globe, with some flying in just for the evening!

We were also exhibiting at the awesome TNW event, presenting alongside some of the biggest names in the business world. They were in esteemed company!

Finally, progress is still ongoing in New York and Singapore, while we have made a couple of changes to how we do things — find updates on their status later in the report.

NEW FACES

Sara Quqa — Office & Operations Management Intern Berlin

Please welcome our newest intern, Sara Quqa! Sara will be taking over from Marah Al-Hassan, our previous intern in Berlin. Like Marah, Sarah is also an exchange student from Jordan trying to complete her degree in ‘Management Science’ as part of a one year stay in Germany. Sara will be working for Primalbase for five months while she completes her bachelor’s degree.

In the future, Sara plans to focus on consumer behaviour and marketing. Sara previously interned for different companies in Amman, Jordan, where she gained experience at a diverse array of companies, from promoting events for Philip Morris, to working as a Sales Intern in Future Cars Co.

Sara enjoys singing, drawing abstract portraits and playing volleyball. Currently, she is exploring all the nice things Berlin has to offer! If you see her in the office, say hello!

LOCATION UPDATES

Primalbase AMS

Primalbase was in esteemed company this month, joining the likes of Nike, Slack and ABN AMRO at The Next Web — a huge thank you to everyone who came over to our exhibition space! The team chatted, pitched and networked with the best of the best, making some exciting connections who we look forward to working with in the future.

Closer to home, we hosted the long-awaited Hackers Handshake exhibition — curated and shot by one of our regular members, Tobias Groenland. This portrait series focused on ethical hackers, testing systems for vulnerabilities so that companies can fix them before more nefarious actors discover them.

The opening night of the event was fantastic, with several of the featured hackers even attending the event, resulting in double vision for some. There was a great crowd in for it, while talks from EY and KPN Security ethical hackers rounded off the experience. We even added the ROAR app to make it a truly immersive experience, enabling attendees to see hidden information in the portrait about the hacker’s work and their stories.

If you’re a member, or just in the tech community and looking for a venue for your next event, drop us an email at events@primalbase.com.

Primalbase BER

We’ve now got a very loyal, tight group of regulars in the Berlin office. We had a nice round of after-work drinks on Friday the 17th, with cold drinks, snacks and music. We even had an impromptu talent show from our visitors, which was a blast! It seems everyone in our office has some special unexpected hidden talents!

We are also working on hostly more social activities. Our events partner, Binary District, will host a “Building on Blockchain” MeetUp on the evening of 25/06/2019. Please click here for more information and registration. The Berlin office is looking forward to welcoming you with open arms!

In London, May brought us sunshine (finally!) so winter has finally gone (there’s a Game of Thrones reference in there too). Despite the warm weather, we had some big crowds in the offices for evening meetups and events. We kicked things off with a Waves meetup, during which a number of different projects working with the Waves platform gave us the lowdown on what they’ve been up to. The event showcased everything from blockchain-powered games and coworking spaces (THAT’S US), to blockchain-enabled cars.

We also welcomed back London & Partners, who hosted a pitch and panel evening for some of the city’s most exciting entrepreneurs. They’re doing some great things for the capital’s tech community, so be sure to check them out.

Finally, we wrapped up the month with a pair of Binary District events — one focused on regulations and technology and the other on zero-knowledge proofs, featuring two of the leading blockchain projects, AZTEC protocol & Clearmatics. It’s been great meeting new visitors and catching up with existing token holders over a beer and a slice of pizza.

Primalbase NYC

With the Summer weather rolling into the city, we are counting down the weeks until we open our NYC office. Hannah, Simone and the team have all been working hard to get everything ready for the official opening at the end of Q2. In the meantime, Hannah is still busy shuffling deliveries, vendor meetings, designers, and is on the hunt for an A+ furniture assembly team and neighbourhood deals. As we check off the final details on our long-awaited New York location, enjoy the surrounding Fulton Street Square and South Seaport bustle!

Primalbase SGP

We are still keeping our eyes and ears open for a suitable location. With full focus on NYC at the moment, we are moving the planned opening of this office to Q4. Current options in the market are simply not satisfying our needs and preferences. We still have a couple of very dedicated real estate agents on the lookout for options in Singapore. We will keep you updated as soon as we have found our promising office space.

Web Products Update

In May, we changed the booking system for 4 PBT offices to limit the availability to 4 PBT owners only. Hotdesk booking remains available using ETH.

17–21 JUNE Primalbase LDN

Zero-Knowledge Proofs Workshop

Zero-knowledge proofs are among the most fascinating concepts in cryptography today, enabling global privacy-preserving currencies like ZCash. But how many of us can actually write a prover and verifier? This 5-day workshop and hackathon, run alongside O(1) Labs and the Snarky Team will show you how.
