It felt like the end of the line for her. Sitting there alone in the corner of darkened room, she was at her wit’s end. Things were rough between the two of them. But she never thought it would get this ugly. She had tried to convince him, but still he doubted her. She loved him with all her soul, but now her world seemed to be crumbling down. The walls around her seemed to be closing in on her. She took the blade and looked at her wrist. How much would it hurt, she thought, the flow from her eyes falling unhindered on her floral skirt. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. The phone buzzed. It was a message from the new guy. Through the miles in between, he held out his hand, holding her up, helping her pick up her broken pieces. When her own man had doubted her, this guy held her close, whispering into her ears. Dont worry, i’m here, he assured her time and again. And even though it was nothing more than a friendly gesture, she fell for him. When it seemed as if her old relationship had met its demise, she found a new refuge. Yet she still longed for him, and felt guilty that she was caught between these two men. As time passed, this new relationship grew stronger, coz this guy made her feel loved and appreciated than anyone ever before. And she wanted to be with him forever. But the weight of the past hung heavy on her shoulders, as she hadn’t given up on him yet. This duality put them both under the knife. Him coz he felt like being cheated. Her coz she made him go through this hurt and pain. Even so, the new guy held faith that someday the storm will clear and it will be just the two of them. Months passed, through calm and storm, through intimacy and doubt, but the risk of separation lurked over their otherwise perfect relationship. Just when he thought he would get his fair chance, the ghost of the past lashed out, careening him back to square one. She even tried to push him away, set him free to seek out his own happiness, someone deserving his true worth. He wouldn’t listen. But she loved him, and he loved her. That’s all they needed. They didn’t have a future, the road ahead was uncharted territory, a no man’s land. Yet they believed in the present, the only thing they had. And today, she was in his arms, snuggled up on his chest, as he wrapped his arms around her. For today they had just one wish, they just wanted the universe to let them be, for this moment, a droplet in the vastness of time.
